Google Pixel 9 Pros

$750 off Google Pixel 9 Pro

The Google Pixel 9 Pro is one of the best Android phones on the market, boasting a stunning OLED display, oodles of battery life and an astonishingly good camera courtesy of Google's clever imaging software. Optus is slashing the phone by $750 when you pay it off over 24 or 36 months and remain on an eligible SIM plan. For the 128GB model, that works out to around $948 instead of $1,698. Plans start at $55 a month. Available in 4 colours - Obsidian, Porcelain, Rose Quartz and Hazel.

$200 off Apple iPhone 16e

If you're in the iOS camp, Optus' best deal is on the 128GB iPhone 16e. This is Apple's latest stab at a "budget" phone and essentially replaces the iPhone SE 2022. Previously selling for $998, it's currently down to $798 when you sign up to an eligible plan. As with the Pixel 9 Pro offer, the cheapest option is 50GB for $55 a month. Available in 2 colours - Black and White.

$200 off Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6

Samsung was the first phone manufacturer to go all in on folding handsets. The Galaxy Z Fold6 is its big boi offering, measuring a colossal 7.6 inches when unfolded. It features a blistering fast Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and inbuilt AI tools, making it a good choice for creative types. Get it for $2,448.72 (down from $2,748.96) on an eligible plan. Available in 3 colours - Navy, Pink and Silver Shadow.

Student plan: 100GB for $39/mth

If you're currently studying in Australia and already have a phone, Optus' SIM only Student Choice Plus plan is well worth a look. It includes 100GB of data for $39 a month for 12 months. That's a saving of $20 per month or $240 over the full year. The plan includes unlimited texts and calls (including to 35 international destinations), no excess data charges and optional 5GB daily roaming for $5. Crucially, there's no lock-in contract so you're free to cancel any time over the next 12 months. The only catch is that you need to have a valid student email address to get the deal.

Are the deals worth it?

If you're in the market for a high-end mobile phone, these deals are pretty decent. We especially like the Pixel 9 Pro deal which works out to a massive 44% off the RRP.

Just keep in mind that you'll be stuck on the same plan for a minimum of 24 months. If you cancel or swap to an ineligible plan, you'll need to pay out the remaining device payments in full. Plan prices are also slightly higher than average, so be sure to factor that into the purported savings.

As far as Optus plans go, the Student Choice Plus offer is a solid discount. However, there are cheaper options on the market that come with more data.

For example, felix Mobile is currently offering unlimited mobile data at speeds of up to 20Mbps for $20 per month. The plan jumps to $40 after 3 months.

If you don't need heaps of data, you might also want to consider Southern Phone's 20GB Small SIM plan. It only costs $14 per month for the first 6 months, before jumping to $24 per month. (It is also on the Optus network.)
