Optus hikes prices again – twice in under a year. Here’s how to save

Optus's SIM-only plans are being bumped by $2 to $6 a month for existing customers starting 4 June 2025. But fret not, we've found deals to help you save if you're not tied to Optus.
Optus raised the prices of its SIM-only plans for new customers at the start of April 2025.
Now, existing customers have received communications explaining they'll be hit with similar changes.
This might come as a shock, given that just less than a year ago (August 2024), Optus SIM-only customers were told their prices were going up by $3 to $6 a month.
The price changes came in for new customers a little earlier (May 2024).
Here's some context about all the price movements before we jump into the deals!
Optus mobile plan price changes 2025
Here's a look at the last three rounds of price and data changes on Optus's SIM-only plans.
Plan | Price and data August 2024 | Price and data right now | Price and data June 2025 |
---|---|---|---|
Optus Small Choice Plus Plan | $49 a month for 30GB | $52 a month for 50GB | $55 a month for 50GB |
Optus Medium Choice Plus Plan | $59 a month for 100GB | $62 a month for 180GB | $65 a month for 200GB |
Optus Large Choice Plus Plan | $69 a month for 220GB | $82 a month for 360GB | $85 a month for 400GB |
Optus Extra Large Choice Plus Plan | $89 a month for 360GB | No longer available | No longer available |
While increasing the data allowances might seem enticing, the average Aussie uses around 17GB of data per month, so the boost may be almost wasteful.
The silver lining is that if you're on a device repayment plan, you won't be hit with the price increase.

Why is Optus increasing mobile plan prices again?
It all comes down to improving the network experience, Anthony Shiner, managing director of customer solutions, told Finder.
We're committed to helping keep Australians connected and continue to invest in improving the speed, coverage and reliability of our network, as well as enhancing technology, to provide a great experience for our customers.
Earlier this year, we wrote about Optus increasing the prices of its prepaid plans by $1 to $30 per recharge for similar reasons, as well as changes from Vodafone, Tangerine, More, Superloop and Exetel.
If we go by past trends, Telstra will likely announce similar changes around July or August.
