Samsung Galaxy S25 release date in Australia + all the latest rumours
It's almost get-set-go time. Samsung's Galaxy S25 series is gearing up to set the tone for 2025's phone releases. Spoiler: We might see a brand new 'Slim' model.
Samsung will soon dominate headlines with its Galaxy Unpacked event in less than two weeks.
No surprise here, the invite hints that the new Galaxy S Series is set to raise the bar for mobile AI experiences once again.
Before diving into the rumour mill, here's a quick calendar reminder to add to your phone.
When is the Samsung Galaxy S25 series launching in Australia?
Samsung is gearing up to reveal its highly anticipated S25 lineup, especially the much-awaited S25 Ultra, on 23 January 2025 at 5am AEDT.
Galaxy Unpacked 2025 is being hosted in San Jose. If you're a keen bean, set your alarms to live stream the event on Samsung's website or YouTube channel.
By registering your interest on its website, you will have the chance to:
- Win one of four $25,000 unforgettable adventures
- Receive an exclusive $100 offer
- Purchase a $20 eVoucher that can be redeemed with the value of $100 on its latest Galaxy AI device for a limited time
When can I pre-order the S25 series in Australia?
Going by reports and past trends, we're expecting pre-orders to start the very next day, Friday 24 January, and run for around two weeks.
That would put the official sale date at 7 February.
The great thing about Samsung's phone launches is there are heaps of pre-order deals to steal, whether from Samsung directly, telcos such as Optus, Telstra and Vodafone, or retailers such as Amazon and JB Hi-Fi.
How much will the Galaxy S25 cost?
Unfortunately, there's not much to go on.
But Samsung's been fairly consistent with its pricing for the last two to three years so we might see similar costs to the S24 series:
Model | RRP |
---|---|
Samsung Galaxy S24 (256GB) | $1,399 |
Samsung Galaxy S24 (512GB) | $1,599 |
Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus (256GB) | $1,699 |
Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus (512GB) | $1,899 |
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (256GB) | $2,199 |
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (256GB) | $2,399 |
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (256GB) | $2,799 |
What's the buzz from the Galaxy S25 rumour mill on specs and features?
There's a fair bit to speculate on, but here's a rundown of what's caught our interest.
Are we going to see a fourth S25 model?
If we're going by past launches, we can expect to see at least three models - the S25, S25 Plus and of course the S25 Ultra, a favourite among Android users.
But what really has people talking is the rumoured 'Slim' design to take on the iPhone 17 redesign (also another rumour).
Ice Universe, a fairly reliable source, posted on X back in November 2024:
The difference between Samsung Galaxy Slim and iPhone Slim models is that Samsung wants to make the camera stronger, stronger than S25, and more similar to the idea of vivo X200 Pro mini, not just thin and light.
Camera upgrades
Samsung's flagships have always been popular for their cameras, especially the Ultra model.
Based on a post from Ice Universe, camera specs for the S25 Ultra will remain largely unchanged barring an upgrade to the ultra-wide camera to 50MP, up from 12MP.
There's not much news on the other models.
Design changes
In September 2024, Android Headlines unveiled the first glimpse of the S25 Ultra, showcasing some noticeable design changes.
All four sides could now be flat, similar to the Pixel 9's design, which is almost a lookalike of the iPhone design.
It'll also be lighter than the S24 Ultra at 219g.
Personally, this would entice me to get the Ultra model. My main gripe has always been the squared-off edges, which I personally find uncomfortable given it's a fairly large device.
And, Ice Universe's photo on X shows we can potentially expect thinner bezels across S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra.
Colours
Display analyst Ross Young suggests the S25 might come in Sparkling Green, Sparkling Blue, Silver Shadow, and Moon Night Blue.
The S25 Plus lineup could have the same colours plus Midnight Black.
Lastly, the S25 Ultra is rumoured to feature four Titanium colours: Silver, Gray, Black, and Blue.
We'll keep you updated as we get closer to the big day. Otherwise, check back on Finder on 23 January for all the launch details in real time.
