Samsung’s new A55 5G goes a little more premium at under $700: Is it worth it?
Samsung's Galaxy A55 5G will go on sale on 25 March and come with a bonus pair of Galaxy Buds FE.
Samsung's bringing its inspiration for the Galaxy S Series to the A55 5G so you can expect it to be sleeker, have an improved camera, a more robust security system and some AI features that were announced for the S24 series earlier this year.
Galaxy A55 5G price and availability in Australia
The Galaxy A55 5G will cost $699 for 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. You can get it in either Awesome Navy or Lilac.
It'll be on sale from 25 March 2024 via Samsung's online store, retailers such as Amazon or major telcos like Optus, Telstra and Vodafone.
If you purchase the phone between March 25 and April 15, you'll receive a bonus pair of Galaxy Buds FE valued at $199 RRP.
Purchasing from Samsung directly will also give you access to a $100 bonus trade-in credit.
Galaxy A55 5G specs and features
The price of the Galaxy A55 5G is 50% cheaper than the starting cost of the S24 series. So if you want a more affordable, mid-range smartphone, Samsung's latest handset is one to watch out for.
It now offers eSIM capabilities meaning you can ditch physical SIM cards for good. It boasts an aluminium frame, a 6.6-inch display, Gorilla Glass Victus Plus on both the front and rear panels and an estimated battery life of up to 2 days.
The camera is similar to the A54 5G albeit with a few enhancements such as improved Nightography, a Night Portrait mode and the option for dual recording - meaning you can record using both your front and back cameras at the same time.
You'll also be able to use AI to take better photos and videos and make editing even easier.
The main disappointing thing is that it'll get 5 years of security upgrades instead of the 7 you get on the S24 series, making it obsolete faster. OS upgrades will last 4 years.
