I saved a quick $350 on my car insurance before breakfast – here’s how
In less than 2 minutes I saved hundreds on my car insurance, and it all happened because of a chance conversation at work.
One of my favourite things about working at Finder is the fact that everyone who works here is deep in the weeds of crunching numbers, comparing household bills and researching prices every single day.
So this morning, when our Head of PR Taylor prepared a quote for car insurance for a media enquiry and shared it with the team, I realised…
I own the exact car in that quote.
And I pay about $350 more per year in insurance.
I quickly whipped up my own quote, being careful to choose the exact same things:
- Excess amount of $900
- Identical coverage: full comprehensive with window screen replacement
- The same insured value – agreed, not market value, for $43,000.
With my current provider, I pay $2,250 per year in insurance premiums.
With Australia Post insurance, I can get the same cover for $1,895.
It's a saving of $350, which is a no-brainer.
I should add, Australia Post is offering a $75 discount for new customers right now, so the full premium without the discount would be $1,970. But when my policy is due for renewal in 2025, I'll shop around and compare once again.
In a matter of minutes, I called my current insurer to see if they could match the price (they couldn't) so I cancelled my policy, arranged a refund and made the switch to my new insurer.
Easy peasy, a $350 cash saving, and all done before I'd even had breakfast.
