Victoria’s $250 Power Saving Bonus is back: Here’s how to get it
All households in Victoria will be able to access the new $250 Power Saving Bonus from 24 March.
Households across the Victorian state will be eligible for round 2 of the government's $250 Power Saving Bonus scheme.
You can start applying on 24 March so make sure to save the date in your calendar.
More than 1.7 million households have already taken advantage of the rebate since it was launched last year.
If you haven't applied for it yet then hurry to register on the Victorian Energy Compare website.
"We know Victorians are doing it tough with the rising cost of energy – that's why we'll have a new round of the $250 Power Saving Bonus, putting money in families' pockets and making sure they're on the best deal," Victorian premier Daniel Andrews said in a statement over the weekend.
Am I eligible for the $250 Power Saving Bonus in Victoria?
Yes, you are, even if you've already signed up for the rebate once before.
The criteria is also quite simple. You must be a VIC resident and have a residential electricity account in your name. Only 1 payment is available per household.
To apply, you will need to once again head to the Victorian Energy Compare website and enter your name, email address and phone number in an online form.
Once the application is processed, the payment will be added to your bank account within 2 weeks.
You can call 1800 000 832 if you can't access the form for any reason.
During the application process, you'll also be given information on some of the best electricity plans available to you.
There's no need to switch energy providers if you're happy with your current plan. You will still be able to get the rebate.
Cheapest energy plans in Victoria
Victoria's already been hit hard with news of gas price hikes of up to 25% which is equivalent to a rise of $326–$480 for the year.
This will be felt most during the winter months.
So while the $250 rebate takes the edge off just a tiny bit, it's more important than ever to be with one of the cheaper energy providers.
GloBird Energy and ENGIE are offering some of the cheapest electricity and gas plans in VIC.
Alternatively, you can compare more options to find an energy plan best suited to your budget and needs.
Tips to save money on your energy bill
Besides comparing plans, you can try some small ways to conserve energy while at home.
For example, turning off your appliance by the wall could save you $100 a year. Ditching the clothes dryer once a week could save you $79 a year.
You can check out our other tips that could save you even more down the line.
Energy prices are constantly changing. Compare electricity and gas plans today to see if you're still getting the best deal.
