Balanced, growth, conservative and more - these were the year's best performers.

This week, we've unveiled the winners of the Finder Super Funds Awards 2023.

These are the funds that performed best across 6 key categories after an exhaustive comparison of hundreds of options, encompassing fees, performance and investment mix.

Yesterday, I got the chance to discuss the winners and the state of the superannuation scene on Channel 7's The Latest.

The key lesson for everyone is simple: superannuation is not just set-and-forget. You need to actively choose the right fund and investment option to meet your life stage and your own goals and needs. Checking out the award winners and highly commended brands is a great way to get started on that task.

Recent Finder research highlights that almost 1 in 4 Australians do not think they'll have enough super to comfortably retire, and an even higher proportion simply don't know if their super will be adequate.

Australians typically estimate that we'll need $641,223 in our super to have a comfortable retirement, but in reality many of us are falling short of that number, and even that amount won't guarantee a particularly cushy life when we stop working.

Regulator ASIC has recently announced that superannuation will be a key focus for 2024. While it's great that funds are kept up to the mark, ultimately your retirement is your responsibility, so make sure you have a clear strategy.

Compare super funds and see if you're getting the best results to fund you in retirement.
