Our verdict: AllClear Travel Insurance covers globetrotters of any age and more than 1,300 pre-existing medical conditions, including heart complications and diabetes.
AllClear Travel Insurance is one of the most senior-friendly providers that our team has reviewed. It doesn't put an age limit on its policies and considers all pre-existing medical conditions on a case-by-case basis.
You can travel with peace of mind on its Gold Plus plan, knowing that there's no limit on overseas medical expenses or trip cancellation costs.
Cons
You need to fill out a long form before you can get a quote, as all your medical conditions need to be detailed.
No age limit but if you are over 99 years old, you will need to call AllClear for a travel insurance quote.
Table updated October 2024
How does AllClear Travel Insurance cover Covid-19?
AllClear covers Covid-19 in some specific scenarios. These include:
Cancellation or amendment costs if you or your immediate family are diagnosed with Covid-19
Medical expenses outside of Australia if you are diagnosed with Covid-19
Some exclusions do apply, however, including costs related to a government-directed border closure or travel ban and mandatory quarantine or self isolation requirements.
If you're at all concerned about unexpected pandemic expenses ruining your trip, we've compared all the providers that offer cover for COVID-19.
What policies does AllClear offer?
AllClear has three different plans available. Its Gold and Gold Plus cover is available to travellers of any age and you can choose to include cancellation cover or leave it off. AllClear Traveller Travel Insurance is available to travellers under the age of 66 years. All policies can be purchased as a single trip plan or annual plan.
You can read more about some of the main insured events a policy can cover you for here.
Traveller
Gold
Gold Plus
The insurer of this product is Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company Ltd. It comes with a cooling-off period and choice of standard excess.
The cooling-off period is 14 days which means you can cancel your policy within this period and AllCllear will refund your premium in full. You can cancel after this time, but some fees will apply. The excess is the amount you need to pay when you make a claim for certain insured events. With AllClear, you can choose to waive the excess by paying a higher premium.
Here's a breakdown of AllClear travel insurance features
These are some of the features that AllClear will cover you for if something goes wrong on your trip. Some of these inclusions are only available for certain levels of cover (e.g. the comprehensive cover under the Gold Plus policy vs the Traveller policy).
If you're going skiing or golfing, then you'll need to make sure you've got appropriate cover. AllClear offers cover for these as an optional extra, so you'll need to add them in at the time of purchasing your policy.
Golf cover is all about loss or damage when you're on the green. It covers golf equipment and unrecoverable greens fees paid before your departure in the event of cancellation, plus a benefit of $100 if you hit a hole-in-one during an organised game.
Winter sports is a must if you're hitting the slopes. It covers loss or damage to ski gear, reimbursement for piste closure and offers curtailment or cancellation cover for prepaid snowsports expenses.
Exclusions
While AllClear will cover you all around the world, there are certain conditions in which your policy won't pay out. They include:
You riding on a motorcycle, quad bike or similar with an engine capacity in excess of 125cc and in any event if you fail to wear a crash helmet
Childbirth or travel when you are more than 36 weeks and 6 days pregnant for a single pregnancy, or more than 32 weeks and 6 days for a multiple pregnancy
Suicide, attempted suicide or deliberately injuring yourself
Manual work or performance of hazardous occupations while travelling
Make sure you review AllClear's PDS for a detailed breakdown of what is and isn't covered, found under its list of general exclusions.
How to make an AllClear Travel Insurance claim
You can obtain a claim form by phone at 02 9333 3921 or email at AllClearclaims@europ-assistance.com.au. This must be done within 28 days of your return.
Your completed claim form should be returned with any relevant documents to support your claim. This can include:
Your original policy and schedule of cover
Confirmation of booking
Original receipts
Police reports
Here's the bottom line about AllClear Travel Insurance
AllClear aims to cover travellers of any age, even if you're up for participating in a long list of adventure activities. If you have pre-existing conditions, you are likely to be taken care of as well since AllClear will consider all conditions. As standard, it covers an impressive list of over 1,300 medical conditions from diabetes and epilepsy, to heart conditions and forms of cancer.
Policies tend to be pricier with AllClear as they are more likely to insure a riskier group of travellers that generally need to pay higher premiums. For some keen travellers with pre-existing medical conditions, however, AllClear may be the only option.
AllClear policies are available to citizens or permanent residents of Australia as well as non-permanent residents who have a valid Medicare, Private Health Fund or Overseas Student Travel Insurance in Australia.
AllClear Travel Insurance is underwritten by Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company, ABN 49 000 525 637, AFSL 240816.
AllClear offers insurance for all ages, but certain policies and options have age restrictions. These include:
AllClear Traveler policy - Maximum age of 66
Gold and Gold Plus Annual plan - Maximum trip duration of 45 days if you're up to 70 years old and 31 days if you're 70 and older
Winter sports cover - Available to persons aged 65 years and under

Hi Helen,
It depends on factors such as how long you’re planning to go on a single trip, and whether or not you intend to travel elsewhere during the year.
My friend is 74 years young, and is finding it hard to get Travel Insurance as he had a Heart Bypass some 15 years ago. He is Healthy and Fit for his Age. We thought we had found cover, but he has heard via Reviews that even if you have one Glass of Beer/alcohol, and have an accident, then you would Not be Covered.

Hi Dennis,
Thanks for getting in touch with Finder.
Since your friend is a senior with pre-existing medical conditions, you can find travel insurance options for him from our list of senior travel insurance with pre-existing conditions. Note that a pre-existing condition may cost him more as a senior so be sure to divulge any and all illnesses to the insurer. If he suffers an illness or injury on his trip that is in any way related to his undisclosed pre-existing condition, he will not be covered by his travel insurance.
If he was hospitalised, he could be faced with a horrendous medical bill that he will have to pay out of his own pocket. It’s far better to come clean with his insurer at the time of application and pay a little more (if necessary) for his condition to be covered.
You can also enter all the details needed on the online form and click ‘Get my quote’. It will show a list of insurers with estimated quotes that you can choose from.
As a friendly reminder, carefully review the Product Disclosure Statement of the product before applying. You may also contact the insurance provider should you have any questions about their policy. You may also seek the expertise of an insurance broker to help you find the other available options.
Hope this helps! For any further questions, feel free to reach out to us again, we’re here to help.
Best,
Nikki

Important information about this website
Finder makes money from featured partners, but editorial opinions are our own.
Finder is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stand by our editorial principles
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.
Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
Please read our website terms of use and privacy policy for more information about our services and our approach to privacy.
We update our data regularly, but information can change between updates. Confirm details with the provider you're interested in before making a decision.
