Australian Seniors Travel Insurance

Pros

  • Australian Seniors is aimed at older travellers, so there's no age limit and pre-existing medical conditions will be considered using a medical questionnaire.
  • You can tailor the amount of cancellation cover you want, making the policy suitable for budget trips as well as more luxurious getaways.

Cons

  • The Snow Pack is restricted to under 75s, so if you're an older traveller who enjoys hitting the slopes, you might have to look elsewhere.
  • The Comprehensive plan only covers theft of up to $250 cash, which is on the lower end when comparing other brands.

How does Australian Seniors Travel Insurance cover COVID-19?

Australian Seniors offers some cover if related to COVID-19, but it's not the most comprehensive in the market. Here's what you can expect:

  • Overseas emergency assistance, medical care and hospital expenses if you're diagnosed with COVID-19.
  • Cancellation or amendment costs if you or your travelling companion are diagnosed with COVID-19.
  • Additional expenses if you or a travelling companion are diagnosed with COVID-19.
  • Costs to return home if you are given medical advice that you should do so.
  • Costs to return home if a relative or business partner is hospitalised or dies due to COVID-19.

There are some scenarios that are not covered by Australian Seniors including costs incurred as a result of mandatory quarantine or isolation, border closures or government travel bans.

Also, if you were diagnosed with COVID-19 before heading on your trip but you went anyway, you won't be covered for any COVID-related overseas medical expenses.

So if I am a senior and could have a lot of the exclusions you have named as these are mostly age related your policy would be totally useless to me.

I have an auto-immune condition, Myasthenia Gravis, controlled by the drug Mestinon. Would this cause problems in obtaining travel insurance?
