What policies do InsureandGo offer?

InsureandGo has three different plans to choose from: Bare Essentials, Silver and Gold. You can purchase these plans either as a Domestic policy for travel within Australia or One Trip for international travel. Further to this, InsureandGo also offers separate policies for cruise travel and backpackers.

Here are some of the key insured events you can expect from a policy:

Luggage

Bare Essentials

Domestic or One Trip (International)

Passport

Silver

Domestic or One Trip (International)

Travel plane luggage passport

Gold

Domestic or One Trip (International)

The insurance is underwritten by Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company Limited and comes with a cooling-off period and excess.

The cooling-off period is 14 days which means if you decide the policy is not suitable after all, you can cancel and receive a full refund, provided you haven't made a claim and your trip hasn't started. The standard excess is $100 and is the amount you're required to pay when you make a claim. You can pay an additional premium to waive the excess or reduce your premium by doubling the excess.

"I was looking at travel insurance for my dad and found that InsureandGo Gold had the highest Finder Score. It covered what we were looking for, including unlimited cover for trip cancellation and overseas medical expenses. I was happy with the price and loved that there was also a 10% discount for signing up through Finder. Before signing up, I checked the claims process and liked that we could easily find the forms on their website to see what would need to be filled out as well as a contact email and number for any issues. The sign-up process was quite easy and involved a medical screening questionnaire which took about 5 minutes to complete."

Exclusions

When considering insurance policies, it's very important to review the circumstances under which you will not have your claim paid. These are usually referred to as general exclusions in your policy wording. InsureandGo won't cover you when your claim arises if:

  • You decide to continue with travel plans despite warnings from appropriate local or national authorities (like smartraveller.gov.au).
  • You or a travelling companion altered or cancelled your travel plans simply because you changed your mind.
  • It relates to a pre-existing medical condition you have not had approved by InsureandGo.
  • You were acting irresponsibly or dangerously or engaging in illegal or reckless activities.
  • Any claim resulting from your pregnancy or childbirth after the 30th week of pregnancy.
  • It is related to the consequences of a risky or dangerous sport or activity.
  • You or anyone you're travelling with is under the influence of non-prescribed drugs or alcohol.

This list is not exhaustive, so make sure you review InsureandGo's Product Disclosure Statement for a detailed breakdown of what is and isn't covered.

How to make a InsureandGo claim

  • Head to https://quote.insureandgo.com.au/policylogin.aspx
  • Enter your policy number, last name and date of birth
  • Complete your claim details by answering all sections
  • Upload any supporting documents relevant to your claim
  • Submit, and InsureandGo will contact you within 10 business days

Here's the bottom line about InsureandGo Travel Insurance

InsureandGo's range of policies should suit most types of travellers. You'll find cover for business travel, non-residents and senior travellers up to 100 years of age. Even its most affordable policy, Bare Essentials, has unlimited cover for overseas medical expenses and a small amount of cover for personal belongings and additional emergency expenses.

No insurer is perfect, however, and one area that InsureandGo does fall behind on is how it covers pre-existing medical conditions. There aren't any conditions covered as standard, which means you'll have to complete a medical questionnaire to determine if you'll be covered and how much you'll need to pay on top of a standard policy.

I will be travelling to Vietnam on April 21, 2017 picking my Indonesian girlfriend up in Denpasar, Bali on the way. In Vietnam we will be going on a motorcycle tour with a group including a professional guide, from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) (April 24 to May 05). I am an experienced motorcyclist with an Australian open class motorcycle and also an international permit who has ridden in Asia on previous occasions, and my girlfriend will be pillion passenger on my bike. Bike is a 250cc Honda in as new condition. I will be 56 years old at the time and my girlfriend is 30 years old. My girlfriend will return to Denpasar on May 06 and I will return to Australia on May 07.
I am trying to organise (medical only) insurance for my girlfriend and myself for this holiday, and preference would be if policy/policies were organised by the same insurance group. I have only just begun looking for insurance, but to date the organisations I have contacted have been prepared to insure me a but have not been prepared to insure my girlfriend as she is an Indonesian citizen living in Indonesia).

      Hi Peter,

Thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately, the insurance brands in our panel either require the insured to be an Australian citizen or resident or have part of the journey either beginning or ending in Australia.

      All the best,
      Richard

      Hi Manami,

Thanks for your question. While I can’t tell you the surcharges, I can help by providing general information. How much you’ll be charged for a policy will depend on your age, destination, and the amount of time you’ll be away. To compare policies from the providers in our panel, please head to the travel insurance homepage. There you will be able to enter your travel details into the comparison engine and compare all of the providers in our panel.

      I hope this was helpful,

Hi I have MS will this affect my travel insurance? Also if a claim is made while away, how long until we receive the money. Like if I have to go to hospital or see a doctor, will we get the money straight away.

      Hi Jacinta,

Thanks for your question. InsureandGo claim to consider all conditions so they may be able to provide you with cover. How long claims take to be processed will depend on the claim and the situation.

      Hi,

Thanks for your question. InsureandGo claim to assess and consider all pre-existing medical conditions, no matter what they are or how recently they occurred. finder.com.au is a comparison service and not an insurer, and we do not have access to information concerning the affect of preexisting conditions on the cost of a policy.

      I hope this was helpful,

Hi do you cover pregnancy after 28 weeks pregnant and child birth? How much?

      AvatarFinder
      RichardJune 30, 2015Finder

      Hi Nat,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

Thanks for your question. If you are enquiring specifically about InsureandGo, their policies provide cover up until you’re 32 weeks pregnant. If you would like to know the maximum weeks pregnant for the providers in our panel, please have a look at our travel insurance for pregnancy page.

Please make sure to read the eligibility criteria, features and details of the policy, as well as the relevant Product Disclosure Statement of the policy before making a decision and consider whether the product is right for you. If necessary, speak to the insurance brand to verify any details.

      I hope this was helpful,
      Richard
