To make sure we're comparing apples with apples, we collect quotes for 6 different personas, then work out the value of 19 different car insurance features. Our team then does some fancy maths to get the Finder Score, taking both price and features into account.

"I switched to Woolworths from another provider when I moved from NSW to Victoria. I was super happy with the product. They offered a great service at a decent price. In particular, I liked that they based the quote on mileage. Given I don’t do a lot of miles, I was able to secure a great rate. "

CTP insurance VIC

In Victoria, Compulsory Third Party is included with your rego. It's called the transport accident charge and it appears on the 'Registration Renewal Notice' VicRoads sends out.

The CTP insurance covers you for the injury or death caused by your vehicle to another person.

Make sure you renew your rego prior to the expiration date each year to ensure you are covered.

There are two other types of optional third party you can also purchase for your care, which include:

  • Third party property car insurance. This covers you if you damage someone else's car or property. It doesn't cover repair costs for your car. It could be good if you have a cheap car and can afford to replace it if it was written off.
  • Third party, fire and theft car insurance. This does the same as third party, plus covers you for fire and theft. It doesn't cover repair costs for your car. It might be a good option if comprehensive cover is too expensive.

I moved 1 street, same suburb, car insurance advised additional $150 and $130 for each car payable for remaining 6 and 8 months of premium. I asked why this happens when in same suburb, reply was number of claims for actual address taken into account. I am being insured as the driver with my own unblemished history, not past tenants of a property, why is more than suburb considered? or is this just discrimination for rental property as cannot control what other drivers claim or how they drive?

      Hi Su

Hi there, this is Nikki. Welcome to finder – the leading comparison website & general information service built to give you advice in your buying decision needs. How are you doing today?

I’m sorry to hear about this. I can see your frustration. As much as we want to assist you on this, you’d have to check the terms and conditions on your insurance policy as this may suggest if your address would affect any claims / payables in premiums.

Please note that we’re a product comparison website and we hold no affiliation with any company we feature on our site. We provide general information on products to assist you in your buying decision process hence we cannot recommend product / service that is rightfully fit for you.

Hope this helps! Feel free to message us anytime should you have further questions.

      Cheers,
      Nikki

I’m looking at buying comprehensive car insurance for my 23yo daughter – car previously insured in my name – I’m finding the quotes from Bingle to be $200-$400 cheaper that other insurance companies.
Am I missing something or are they really that much cheaper?

      Hi,
I think you misunderstood my question. I have done all the comparisons and obtained quotes and as best as i can, i have tried to apply the same criteria to each quote. They are all much the same price, between $1100 and $1400 with the exception of Bingle. The Bingle quote, depending in the variable excess, is around $830 – $950, roughly $200-$400 cheaper than the others.
I have been through the pds for Bingle and it appears to be no different to the other companies so i was wondering, with your experience, whether you know of any reason why Bingle is substantially cheaper?

      Thanks,
      Peter

      Hi Peter,

      Thank you for clarifying that.

I understand. Bingle car insurance is issued by AAI Limited, which is part of the Suncorp Group. They are one of the company car insurances that we feature on our site. There is no need to worry. The fact that they are cheaper than others, that is one of their plus points to car insurance seekers. You may check more info on these page reviews:

Be sure to read through the terms, conditions, and features of the policies you’re interested to ensure you’re getting the right one for you.

      I hope this helps.

      Best regards,

      Hi Mandy,

finder.com.au is a comparison and information service and not actually an insurer.

The table on our comprehensive car insurance page lists some of the insurers in our panel who provide cover for 24/7 roadside assistance.

You can also get in touch with your chosen insurer directly and confirm if they can provide the cover you’re looking for.

      All the best,
      Zubair
