RACQ is a bit more expensive than other brands, but without offering an especially strong product for that higher price. That said, RACQ has a long history and reputation in Queensland, which might be important to some. But if that's not you, you might be better too look at one of the smaller providers.
Pros
Buy your car insurance and roadside assistance all in one place
Access a range of member perks, including discounts on fuel, groceries, and gift cards
Support available from a Queensland-based call centre and 27 physical branches
Cons
RACQ's policies were, on average, 34% more expensive than other brands we researched
No cover for emergency accommodation, a very common benefit from other brands
Key replacement costs capped at $750, but most brands offer a $1,000 limit
How does RACQ car insurance compare with other car insurers?
RACQ's comprehensive car insurance policy is more expensive than other national car insurance providers, yet it has no stand-out benefits or limits. For similar coverage, there are cheaper car insurers available.
We analyse over 100 car insurance products and rate each one on price and features. What we get out the other end is a nice round number between 1 and 10 to help you start comparing.
To make sure we're comparing apples with apples, we collect quotes for 8 different personas, then work out the value of 19 different car insurance features. Our team then does some fancy maths to get the Finder Score, taking both price and features into account.
RACQ's policies are, on average, more expensive than comprehensive car insurance policies offered to Queensland drivers by other brands. However, RACQ does offer member benefits that other car insurers don't — like discounts on fuel and groceries. The best car insurance for you may not depend solely on price.
Excess free windscreen - Don't pay an excess the first time you make a claim for damage to your windscreen, window glass or sunroof glass. One repair or replacement per year.
Hire car after an incident - Up to $75 a day for a hire car if your vehicle is unusable after an insured incident that you've made a claim for.
No claim discount protection - RACQ won't reduce your current no claim discount the first time you make an at fault claim during the period of insurance.
FAQs
Yes. RACQ is only available to drivers who live in Queensland. However, your car is insured when you drive it in other states.
You can call RACQ on 13 19 05, send a message via its website, or visit one of its 27 physical locations.

Important information about this website
Finder makes money from featured partners, but editorial opinions are our own.
Finder is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stand by our editorial principles
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.
Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
Please read our website terms of use and privacy policy for more information about our services and our approach to privacy.
We update our data regularly, but information can change between updates. Confirm details with the provider you're interested in before making a decision.
